Hypnosis books-our recommended NLP hypnosis books The following books are our recommended reading for anyone starting to want to know more about hypnosis and trance. Our initial recommendation is Trance-formations by John Grinder and Richard Bandler - unfortunately it's a bit expensive! As an alternative we have gone for 'Hypnosis - a comprehensive guide' by Tad James. '
Conversations with Milton H. Erickson MD: Changing Individuals by Jay Haley If one could ask Milton Erickson anything one wished about how to change people, the answers would be in these conversations. The three volumes cover: the wide variety of techniques Erickson innovated for dealing with the individual's psychological problems, the issues of marriage and procedures for resolving problems, and Erickson's lively ways of doing therapy with children
Handbook of Hypnotic Suggestions and Metaphors by D Corydon Hammond (editor) Designed as a practical desktop reference for clinicians who use hypnosis, this book contains a collection of therapeutic suggestions and metaphors, with contributions from over 100 hypnotherapists. It provides a look at what experienced clinicians say to their patients during hypnotic work.
'Hypnosis: A Comprehensive Guide by Tad James Research shows that many people react differently to different types of hypnotic induction - yet many hypnotherapists are confined to using only one technique. This practical book makes three radically different types of hypnosis easy to use in daily hypnotic work, exploring the methods of Milton H. Erickson, George Estabrooks and David Elman, presenting them in such a way as to allow a clear and accessible understanding. A resource for all students, trainers and therapists, it includes a range of powerful scripts for improved hypnotic work
Reviewer: (donjohnr@aol.com) from London I own and moderate three of the most succesful hypnosis discussion communities on the internet. Elman has been repeatedly voted as the second most influential person in the history of modern hypnotherapy (besides Erickson). This book is not for the beginner as many of the techniques are now dated. However it contains some of the best information around on hypnosis from someone who -unlike many hypnosis "authorities"- was not a mere bluffer but a genuine expert and master of his art. I consider this to be one of the most influential books ever written on hypnotherapy. I cannot recommend it enough .
A concise presentation of ideas followed by a series of scripts for clinicians to borrow or modify for their own use. The scripts include metaphorical problem-solving and direct suggestion approaches and are organized by presenting problem, among them, depression, anxiety, phobias, sexual dysfunction etc.
Presents over one hundred "teaching tales" of the hypnotherapist Milton Erickson, which he uses to influence his patients on conscious and unconscious levels, and discusses his approaches to hypnosis and psychotherapy
The authors, practitioners in NLP, explain Milton H. Erickson's skills of hypnotism to the readers, identifying the elements of his skill by using refined patterning and modelling techniques. Erickson also describes his methods in his own words
Patterns of the Hypnotic Techniques of Milton H. Erickson , MD: Volume 2 The authors explain Milton H. Erickson's skills of hypnotism to the readers, identifying the elements of his skill by using refined patterning and modelling techniques, moving from verbal patterning to non-verbal communication. Erickson also describes his methods in his own words.
Scripts and Strategies in Hypnotherapy by Roger P. Allen Scripts and Strategies in Hypnotherapy Volumes 1 and 2 have been combined to create the single most comprehensive source of scripts and strategies that can be used by hypnotherapists of all levels of experience to build a successful framework for any therapy session. It covers inductions, deepeners and actual scripts for a wide range of problems from nail-biting to insomnia, sports performance to past life recall, pain management to resolving sexual problems. There is a particularly comprehensive section on smoking cessation. All scripts can be used as they stand or adapted for specific situations. "Provides an imaginative source of scripts covering the most commonly met cases. For the newly qualified therapist it is a useful addition and for the more experienced it is a source of inspiration." - European Journal of Clinical Hypnosis
Therapeutic Trances: The Co-operation Principle in Ericksonian Hypnotherapy by Stephen Gilligan This volume describes the therapeutic use of trance state. It shows how therapists may cooperate with clients to translate problems into solutions. Chapters present a framework for understanding Ericksonian hypnotherapy; associational strategies; and practical aspects of trance induction
Trance-formations: Neurolinguistic Programming and the Structure of Hypnosis
The simple step by step approach used
in this book is the reason for it's greatness. Tranceformations totally
demystifies the process of hypnosis and it's application. When reading a
"how to" book, people get the "how" to do something-this book also tells
you "why" the techniques work so well. This allows for the reader to
recognise that ALL LANGUAGE is hypnotic. It's just a matter of recognising
patterns that exist and then using them to fit the situation. This book
spells out those patterns, how (and why) they work and gives plenty of
examples to demonstrate and excercises to practice. After reading this
book a few times i started to realise why the price remains high. Also at
the back there is a DERREN BROWN style mind reading trick to practice. A
truly awesome book! Training Trances by John Overdurf and Julia Silverthorn Reviewer: stevewooding from England ... for anyone interested in hypnotherapy, training and the general operation of the conscious and unconscious minds. Very practical (it is in essence a transcript of a training session) with lots of suggestions(!) for trance-work. My copy is only a few months old and is already looking much the worse for wear - I'm on my third read through and have referred to it many other times
Uncommon Therapy: The Psychiatric Techniques of Milton H. Erickson, MD by Jay Haley Long known as the world's leading medical hypnotist, Milton H. Erikson developed a strategic approach - for individuals, couples and families - that uses hypnotic-therapy skills in observing and motivating people. His ideas and procedures have been widely used to sharpen the techniques of therapists of many different schools. Jay Haley provides a look at Dr. Erickson's theories in practice, through description and excerpts from Erickson's case studies.
