NLP Seminar research brief June - December
2002
Background
As you may be
aware I've been running NLP seminars, through e-peopleserve, for 18
months and we now have about 200 delegates who have completed a
foundation course and 30 delegates who are now practitioners. The
majority of delegates have been extremely enthusiastic about the
seminars and I'm in the process of kicking off a small research
project to determine some of the business and personal benefits that
have resulted.

Purpose
The main purpose
of the research is to give future potential delegates more
information as what they could achieve out of attending the current
seminars and the type of delegates that benefit most. In addition it
opens the discussion as to the potential of NLP applications to a
wider audience.
As someone with
an interest in developing capabilities I want to give the
opportunity to take part or give any feedback on the process you
think appropriate.
The remainder of
this email gives details of the seminar description, research
objectives, methodology, how you could take part and next steps.
Seminar
description
The suite of
seminars consists of 3-modules: 2-day foundation, 3-day practitioner
basics and 3-day practitioner accreditation. Each seminar stands on
its own and is designed to improve capabilities under the
competencies of 'unlocking
potential' 'creating trust' and 'emphasising with customers’.
Delegates who successfully complete all three modules, a short
modelling project and complete a licence application form will
become NLP practitioners licensed by the SNLP and receive a
practitioner certificate signed by Richard Bandler, one of the
co-founders of NLP.

Notes
As NLP training
is basically experiential we are working from the assumption that
delegates who obtain the most benefit elect to go on the seminars
because they have already identified that it meets their own work
and personal development needs. We aim to give them more information
to be able to make that choice. We are not suggesting that NLP
training will work for everyone - particularly with the sensitive
nature of some of the seminar content, like belief change and
unconscious communication.
We have chosen
SNLP accredited training, as we believe it is more appropriate to a
business audience. We are currently debating whether to include ANLP
trained individuals to widen the breadth of the study.
To keep the results independent I've
asked business psychologist Laura Lewin to design the questionnaires
and focus group. Laura works for Nicholson McBride and conducts
senior level assignments in the IT/consultancy sectors. She is an
ANLP accredited NLP practitioner and Master practitioner.
Similarly, to keep the results
independent we will work closely with the 'NLP in BT' Group.
